Esthetician+Reacts+to+at+home+skin+device

At home, devices have become much more accessible in the marketplace since the pandemic, and people have been trying to find creative ways to get their signature skincare treatments done. These at-home devices are much more affordable, but knowing the risks is essential before diving into at-home skincare treatments.

One thing to remember is that going to a professional with a license means they have extensive training and exams to pass before performing these procedures.

Microdermabrasion

Microdermabrasion uses an applicator with an abrasive tip that renews the skin. It helps combat aging and sun damage and even helps hyperpigmentation. A monthly treatment can become expensive over time, with a price tag of $125-$300 for in-office microdermabrasion. Microdermabrasion was one of my favorite treatments to provide for people. I just loved the results it gave people; however, I don’t recommend at-home microdermabrasion devices.

Some things to consider:

There are many contraindications to microdermabrasion at home devices that people may not realize. A few issues to consider are medications, pregnancy, severe acne, and overall health. Using this device without knowing all of the contraindications can result in the one thing you may be trying to get rid of, which is hyperpigmentation. It’s always important to get a comprehensive history before any skin treatment. For these reasons, I think it’s essential to have a licensed professional provide your skin treatment.

What is microneedling?

Microneedling is done with a small hand device with tiny needles at the tip. The device causes minor micro-injuries to the skin, and this injury stimulates your collagen to heal the wound. The stimulation of collagen helps with sun damage, aging, and even acne scarring. In a controlled environment, it can work wonders on the skin. A treatment like this can cost anywhere from $400-$1000 in an office, depending on what you use to microneedle. It could be PRP (platelet-rich plasma) or a hyaluronic acid serum.

Things to consider:

Anytime you use a device that creates a controlled injury, it is crucial to sterilize it to prevent an infection. Post-treatment aftercare instructions are vital for your recovery, and when is the best time to start using your makeup and regular skincare? These are all super important things to consider when doing an at-home or office treatment. Your provider can recommend skincare at an office to support your skin’s optimum recovery.
